step1. Relax. Sit in a comfortable chair or even lie down in your bed. If you are at work and cannot leave, try taking some deep, calming breaths at the very minimum. Close your eyes or darken the room, and try to reduce your heart rate. Reducing your stress level can reduce the pain from the cramping.

Step2.

Drink at least one tall glass of water. Not only is drinking water good for your health, but if you suspect that a certain food has triggered the cramps, then drinking water will help flush that food out of your system.

Step3.

Take an antacid. This is another way to treat the pain if you suspect a food is involved. Antacids are very effective for treating many kinds of stomach pain.

Step4.

Take acetaminophen, not aspirin or ibuprophen, which can make some cramps worse. Acetaminophen is sold under the brand name Tylenol among others.

Step5.

Place a hot water bottle or hot pad on the abdomen. Take care not to overheat yourself. Some people love the moist heat of a hot water bottle, while others prefer the steadier heat of a pad. Or, try soaking in a hot bath.
